International Human Powered Vehicle Association
http://www.ihpva.org/
provides different races since year 1975. Human muscles must be
the only propulsion of vehicles. The land IHPVA record holder is
"the fastest man on earth", so it is big chance for riders and
designers. The fastest are fully faired recumbent bikes (minimal
frontal area and minimal coefficient of air-drag resistance).
Athletes power the most energy-efficient vehicles in existence
in Battle Mountain, Nevada, where the world record surpassed
70-MPH in 2000 and 80-MPH in 2001. Athletes accelerate over 5.1
miles of desert highway from a standstill to top speed.
In 2003 team Eivie
set the
new European
speed record
at Battle
Mountain, Nevada – Damjan
Zabovnik, 109,8 km/h. Matjaž
Leskovar could
set a new
world speed
record, but
unfortunately
he stopped in
the middle
of the
race. Despite
the fact,
that Damjan is
only amateur
recumbent rider,
he was
faster than
Jason Queally,
2001 (UK) and Jan
van Eiden,
2002 (GERMANY). How is it
possible?
